For more information on Tori, please click on the "Our Staff" tab. _________________________________________________________________________________ Epidural related Meningitis outbreak - a message from Dr. Bast I have been following the news of this terrible situation where methylprednisolone, a steroid medication that is frequently used for epidural steroid injections has been linked to a rare fungal meningitis - aspergillosis. I want to reassure anyone who has been treated by me in the past that I have never used this medication for an epidural. The medication that I use for epidural steroid injections includes either betamethasone (Celestone) and/or dexamethasone. Coastal Orthopaedics and the Norwalk Surgical Center/Norwalk Hospital do not obtain medications from the pharmacies that have been implicated in supplying the contaminated medication. I understand that undergoing any procedure is always a careful risk/benefit analysis and this news will certainly be on patients minds as they consider whether the procedure is appropriate for them.
